CULLMAN – Oktoberfest this year is full of new activities and twists on traditional Cullman Oktoberfest traditions. Michael Kimbrough, member of the Oktoberfest Board, helped plan and coordinate the activities of Oktoberfest this year and was able to offer an overview of this year’s festivities.

People who go to Oktoberfest this year, he said, “can expect a lot of things,” such as, “good bands, good food and a lot of family entertainment.” He went on to list some of the vendors that will be on the streets of Oktoberfest this year. “We’ve got Johnny’s Bar-B-Q, a lot of good ice cream and Steel City Pops.” Steel City Pops is a new add-on this year to a large list of already established local favorites. “Arts and crafts will be held Saturday and Sunday. The bed race will also be held on Saturday,” said Kimbrough.

Cullman’s Oktoberfest is growing, according to Kimbrough. “It’s our third year wet and we are getting bigger every year,” he said.

“New activities include a drive-in car show by the warehouse district,” stated Kimbrough, mentioning, “We are trying to incorporate retailers in Cullman to bring in a variety of food vendors.”

John Richter, 2016’s Burgermeister, explained what Oktoberfest means to him, “It’s a great opportunity for everybody who lives in Cullman to come together to be grateful for what we have; as the week goes on, we’ll welcome guests from out of town and we’ll showcase our town.”
