CULLMAN – At their regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 3, the Planning Commission surprised outgoing Mayor Max A. Townson with a special recognition. A framed Certificate of Distinguished Service was presented to Townson by Planning Commission Chairman Mike Voss.
The certificate read:
Whereas, Max A. Townson has served the City of Cullman as a member of the Cullman Planning Commission with dedication, distinction, and integrity since becoming mayor in 2008; and,
Whereas, through his active participation and outstanding leadership, Max has played an instrumental role in the vital accomplishments of the Cullman Planning Commission; and,
Whereas, Max’s devotion to his responsibilities as a member of the Cullman Planning Commission, his ability to form good working relationships with others, and his love of the community has earned him the high regard and respect of all with whom he has come into contact, and his participation as a member of this commission will be missed.
Now, therefore, this commission, speaking on behalf of all our citizens, publicly goes on record as commending Max A. Townson for his distinguished and outstanding service by expression our appreciation for his leadership on the Cullman Planning Commission and in all areas of community improvement.
In witness whereof, we have hereunto set our hands on this, the 3rd day of October, 2016.
The certificate was signed by Rick Fulmer (director of Building, Planning, & Zoning) and Planning Commission members Voss (chairman), Wendell Copeland, Steve Cummings, Cherri Drake, Gene Green, Bobby Kelley, Andy Page and Barrett Richard.
In a touching and impromptu speech, Townson thanked the commission for the recognition and for their service to the community and spoke of how grateful he was to have had the opportunity to serve the City of Cullman as mayor and on the Planning Commission.
