HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s volleyball team picked up two more conference victories over a three-day span, concluding Sunday with a comfortable road victory over Southern Union (25-18, 25-13, 25-12). The Lions (24-1, 10-0 Alabama Community College Conference) also swept Jeff Davis at home on Friday, winning 25-11, 25-10, 25-17.
Against Southern Union, Wallace State’s Kelsea Bivins finished with a season-high 21 kills. Bivins, a three-time ACCC Player of the Week from Thompson High, leads the conference with 273 kills and has registered 10 or more kills in eight of her last nine matches.
Kati Thomas had nine kills for the Lions, MaKenzie Bearden had seven kills, Cierra Davis added 12 digs and four kills, Emily Wilson finished with 13 digs, August Newberry had 11 digs and Holly Posey added eight digs.
Freshman Abby Borden, an Arab graduate, had 36 assists and five digs against the Bison. Borden leads the league with 595 assists.
Against Jeff Davis, Bivins finished with 13 kills, Bearden had 11 kills and Davis added nine kills and seven digs for Wallace State, which has won 15 matches in a row.
Borden finished with 30 assists and four digs, Wilson had a team-high 13 digs, Kaylee Maddox added six kills and five digs, Posey had seven digs and four assists, Tara Miller collected seven assists and Newberry had four digs.
Wallace State, which has won 38 consecutive ACCC matches, hosts Snead State and Wallace Community College-Selma on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. at Tom Drake Coliseum.
