HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s volleyball team swept Lawson State at Tom Drake Coliseum on Thursday night, prevailing 25-11, 25-18, 25-17.

The Lions (19-1, 6-0 Alabama Community College Conference) won their second conference match in as many days after defeating Southern Union on Wednesday night.

“I didn’t feel we played with the energy and enthusiasm that we needed against Southern Union, but tonight (Thursday) was much better. We came out with a lot of excitement and we were focused. Lawson State is a much improved team. If we weren’t prepared, we would have been in trouble,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel, whose team has won 10 matches in a row. “We have a lot of depth on this team. That’s one of our strengths. There’s always a quality player ready to come in and contribute.”

Wallace State extended its conference winning streak to 34 consecutive matches dating back to October 2013.

Wallace State swept both Southern Union (25-16, 25-12, 25-16) and Martin Methodist’s JV (25-9, 25-8, 25-11) on Wednesday.

In the conference match against Southern Union, Kelsea Bivins paced the way with 15 kills. Bivins, an All-Region performer as a freshman last season, leads the conference in kills. Alicia Charles added seven kills for the Lions, Kati Thomas had six and Cierra Davis contributed five kills and three digs. Holly Posey had a team-high 23 assists and collected seven digs, Abby Borden had 10 assists, August Newberry had 10 digs and Emily Wilson added five digs.

Against Martin Methodist, Bivins finished with 10 digs and three digs, MaKenzie Bearden had 10 kills and Charles had seven kills. Posey finished with 13 assists, Borden contributed 10 assists and sophomore Tara Miller had seven assists.

Wallace State is back on action on Wednesday, hosting rival Gadsden State and Point University (Georgia), beginning at 2 p.m. at Tom Drake Coliseum.
