ARLEY – The Lynn Bears improved to 3- 0 Friday night as they traveled to Arley to face the Meek Tigers. The Bears sought revenge, after Meek trounced them last year, 70 – 7. 2016 is proving to be Lynn's year as they are powered by a young team offering both a ground and air game, as well as a defense that shut Meek down for the majority of the night.
Sophomore running back, Jordan Davis, bounced off Meek defenders as he pushed through their defensive line, play after play. Davis’s second effort on his rushes granted the Bears several first downs, and he was good for nearly 80 yards on the night. Meek couldn't penetrate Lynn's offensive line consistently enough to stop his onslaught of 3-5 yard rushes. Despite Jackson's impressive efforts, it was junior Ethan Delay who claimed both of Lynn's touchdowns. Delay caught a 35-yard pass from quarterback, and fellow Junior, Noah Jackson early in the game and punched in a 10-yard rush for Lynn's second score in the 3rd quarter.
Meek's performance wasn't totally overshadowed by Lynn, as the Tiger's showed signs of life late to make the game interesting. Late in the fourth, junior fullback John Mark Abercrombie found the end zone on a short rush, after quarterback Luke Tidwell connected with receiver Luke Sherer for a 36-yard pass to the 2-yard line. Meek failed to convert for two, but eventually got the ball back after Lynn was forced to punt with less than three minutes left in the game, and at midfield. It was Meek's best starting field position of the second half. The Tigers finally seized some momentum from the Bears, and marched down field to the red zone, before Tidwell threw an interception to the Bears’ Noah Jackson inside the 10-yard line. Jackson ran the ball back another 10 yards before being taken down, but it was enough to give Lynn the victory as they let time expire.
Lynn took the game 13-6.
Lynn only listed one senior on their roster, and are off to a 3-0 start after only winning two games all year last year. Their young team was impressive, and should be one to watch moving forward and into the 2017 season should they retain the core of their young line up. Meek fell to 1-2, but the Tigers looked to have plenty to work with moving forward as they travel next week to face off against Decatur Heritage.
