CCBOE calls special meeting, suspends employee for 10 days

CULLMAN – In a special called meeting of the Cullman County School Board Tuesday afternoon, the lead topic was the recommendation by Superintendent Shane Barnette to suspend an employee for 10 days without pay, from Aug. 31 through Sept. 14.

The name of the employee was not disclosed. No further discussion took place after a motion was made by Cold Springs board representative Wendy Crider and seconded by Holly Pond's James Thompson.

The motion carried by a 4-0 margin. Kenny Brockman of Hanceville, Chris Carter of Fairview and Mike Graves of Vinemont were not available to attend the special meeting.

In other news, the board approved the authorization of Barnette to submit applications for various programs for the 2016-17 school year.

They are Title I program funds, Title I Part A for school improvement and focus school funds, Title II funds for teacher and principal training, technology and class size reduction, Tittle II tech prep funds and federal vocation education, Title III English language learners, Title IV federal and state to implement special education and handicap laws, Title VI Part B funds.

The next regular meeting of the school board will be Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. in the central office board room. The public is invited to attend.
