CULLMAN COUNTYTwo separate, unrelated shootings occurred in Cullman County Thursday night, one in Good Hope and the other in Vinemont. Both were domestic in nature and both at approximately 7 p.m.  Here's what we know now.

In the first incident, on County Road 1294 near Vinemont, one person was shot in a domestic altercation. A stepfather shot his stepson. According to the Cullman County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), the shooting appears to have been in self-defense after the stepson came to the home and attacked his stepfather.

The stepson was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. The stepfather was questioned and released.

The second incident, in Good Hope near the Dollar General store, resulted in the arrest of Zachary T. Trollinger, 34. Trollinger has been charged with attempted murder.

CCSO deputies and investigators responded to the area in Good Hope around 7 p.m. last night after receiving a 911 call that the suspect, Trollinger, had pulled up and started shooting at his wife. Trollinger fired six shots, with three of them hitting his wife’s vehicle. No one was injured.

Trollinger fled the scene, but was tracked to Hanceville, where he had ditched his truck to avoid law enforcement. CCSO deputies found the suspect's truck parked at a local supermarket, where they discovered Trollinger had gotten a ride from a third party back to his home in Vinemont. CCSO deputies and investigators apprehended Trollinger at his residence.

Trollinger is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $60,000 cash bond.

“I would like to thank the deputies and investigators for their relentless determination to locate Mr. Trollinger last night. Our community’s safety is our main goal and I am glad we were able to locate and arrest the suspect within a short time,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.
