CULLMAN – Get ready to get your glow on at the 2016 EvaBank Midnight Run on Friday, Aug. 19 at 11:59 p.m. The race will start at the Cullman Civic Center and follow a course through the streets of Cullman at midnight.
The 2016 Midnight Run will be a black-light themed race, with color stations strategically placed along the course where neon color powder will be thrown at runners as they pass. The neon colors will glow under the black lights. Pre-race and post-race parties will take place at the finish line where runners will receive free glow-in-the-dark goodies.
“We have had a few hundred signed up right now, we normally have anywhere from 700-800 runners every year,” said Waid Harbison, marketing, programs & events director at Cullman City Parks and Recreation. “This will be the 24th year for the race.”
For those runners who want to race, but don’t want to take part in the shenanigans, there will be the option to bypass the color stations on the course. The race will be professionally timed, and the top three individuals in each category will receive medals. Overall winners will receive cash prizes.
“We are working right now to fine-tune all the details. The event is going to feature a very cool pre-race and post-race party where we will have a very hoppin’ DJ. We will also be throwing color powder, glow necklaces and other goodies during the parties before and after the race,” said Harbison. “We want people to know this is a fun race for anyone to enjoy and there will be several color/black light stations on the course like the color run, but they are neon colors that glow under our black lights. Our serious runners will also have the ‘inside lane’ to run around the color stations and focus on their times. All runners will be chipped time, and we will be giving prizes to top three in each age category, as well as $250 to overall winners and $200 to master’s winners.”
Registration is open now through Aug. 19 at the Cullman Civic Center, any EvaBank location or online at http://qrne.ws/midnightrun.
“We will have fruit and pizza after the race and all runners will also receive goodie bags and T-shirts, continued Harbison. “I want to say thanks to our sponsor EvaBank who has made this possible for over 20 years now. Megan Smith is the marketing director at EvaBank, and she does a wonderful job making this event possible for the community, along with all of the folks at EvaBank.”
