COLONY – The Colony Town Council held a regular council meeting this week.

Mayor Vernon Fields was not in attendance. The council members present were Alexander Twitty acting as mayor pro tempore, Margaret Dimbo, Crystal Wilson and Dorothy Graves.

Resolutions were presented for each of the four candidates running for election. Everyone running is unopposed. As Alabama law stipulates, automatically elected officials must be a part of a two-part process – during one council meeting a motion must be proposed to instate the candidates, and the next meeting is the one at which that motion will be approved.

Donnis Leeth, who served on Colony’s Town Council from 2008-2012, is unopposed as the candidate for mayor.

The rest of the town’s leadership will be as follows:

  • Council Place #1 (Finance) will be Margaret Dimbo, who is moving from her current position as Council Place #2 (Streets and Drainage).
  • Council Place #4 (Parks and Recreation/Library) will be Curtis Johnson.
  • Council Place #5 (Sanitation and Utilities) will be Myra Twitty.

No one has qualified for Council Place #2 (Streets and Drainage) or Council Place #3 (Police and Fire). The council will appoint those positions at their September meeting.

The second topic of discussion was the approval of a motion to spend the $6,000 that would have been used on a municipal election to purchase various gaming equipment for family use at the Colony Educational Complex – table-tennis tables, air hockey, etc.

The Colony Town Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
