HOLLY POND – Wayne White, the antiques dealer planning on opening a physical location for his traveling business at the old post office in Holly Pond, said Tuesday morning that the opening of his store is something that is “probably not going to happen.”
White’s interest in the town’s old post office, which had fallen into disuse, prompted a special Holly Pond Town Council meeting on Monday night. (See: http://cullmansense.com/articles/2016/08/08/holly-pond-town-council-meets-set-price-new-business)
When asked if White’s statement on his store not opening had anything to do with the decision made by the council Monday night, White said, “I wasn’t at the meeting, and I did not know anything about (their decision).”
White said he had no comment regarding the circumstances that led him to believe his store won’t be opening.
Holly Pond Mayor Herman Nail had not been contacted by White as of 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Nail and Holly Pond Town Clerk Linda Pope both shared the same sentiments of shock.
“That is a surprise to me,” Nail said upon learning of White’s intentions to not open his shop. “Everything was fine last night, as far as I know. We have done a lot of work getting that ready for them to open up that shop, and this is a disappointment. I thought that was going to be very good for the community. I am going to try to get to the bottom of this and find out what’s gone wrong.”
