CULLMAN – According to Cullman City Police Officer Joey Duncan, the road rage incident that occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the intersection of Highways 157 and 31 was the culmination of an argument between a motorcyclist and the driver of a white Chevrolet pick-up truck that began in Hartselle and ended with the motorcyclist striking the truck driver in the left-eye area.

“Luckily we were able to speak with an objective witness that was unrelated to either party,” said Duncan. “The Chevy truck made an improper lane change after an argument with the driver of the motorcycle. That improper lane change, which occurred at a low speed, caused the motorcycle to fall over. The truck ended up in the median, and the motorcyclist struck the driver of the truck in the left-eye area.”

According to Brandy Jones, the wife of the motorcyclist, the man who struck the Chevy driver, her 9-year-old daughter was riding on the back of the motorcycle that was knocked over.

Duncan was able to confirm her statement after his investigation.

Presumably the argument escalated from Hartselle to Cullman, when the Chevy truck made an improper lane change, cutting off the motorcyclist and causing the motorcycle to fall over, while the motorcyclist and his 9-year old passenger were on it. This action caused the father of the 9-year old to confront the driver of the Chevy truck, striking him.

According to Duncan, the driver of the Chevy truck stated at the scene of the incident that he wanted to press charges. However, because the law enforcement officers were not there when the incident took place, the driver of the Chevrolet will have to file a report with the Cullman court system. That will have to be looked over by a magistrate to see if there is probable cause for a warrant to be issued.

Duncan was unable to speculate about the Chevy driver’s chances in a case against the motorcyclist.
