Maxine Tolbert McLarty, 80 of Arley, passed away on July 30, 2016 in Jasper.
She was born on December 26, 1935 in Nesmith. Maxine was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at Meek Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of the Addison High School class of 1954. Known as Mac or Mz. Max, she worked at Cullman Lingerie, the sewing plant in Arley, the trailer plants in Addison and Quality Dinettes. She was a member of the Arley Rescue Squad.
Maxine was a loving mother and grandmother and was loved by all who knew her. She was a talented seamstress, cake decorator, and was known for making beautiful silk flower arrangements and jewelry. She loved gardening and was an all-around good cook! She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing to the Glory of God. She was a giving person who always put others first, and she was not afraid to speak her mind. Above all she was truly a Godly woman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Brother Jr. Garmon will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Self Byrnside and her husband Duffy, and Cheryl McLarty Rickett and her husband James; brother, Douglas Tolbert; and she was Granny to 4 grandchildren, B.J. (Katie) Cox, Dylan (Ashley) Byrnside, Michael (Jennifer) Rickett and Will Rickett; 2 great grandchildren, Ansley and Preston Cox; and sisters in laws, Geane Tolbert, Keneith Tolbert, Emileen Tolbert and Vaudene Tolbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus L. Tolbert and Lydia Robinson Tolbert; brothers, Harold Tolbert, Verbon Tolbert, Lecil Tolbert, Frendon Tolbert, Mitchell Tolbert and Tim Tolbert; and sisters, Willodene Blackwood and Joan Lee.
