HANCEVILLE– Anyone seeking a creative outlet can find it during any of three upcoming art classes offered by the Wallace State Community College Continuing Education department, and they will walk away with a completed painting.
A series of art classes taught by local artist Laura Walker offers lessons in various painting techniques, with a finished piece of art being the ultimate goal at the end of each session. The three-hour sessions will be held at Walker’s Art Shop Around the Corner in Cullman.
Each of the three classes will provide instruction on a different medium, oil paint, acrylic paint and watercolors. All supplies are included in the cost of the classes. Classes will be held from 9 a.m.-noon.
The first class on July 27 will teach students how to create an oil painting using a palette knife to achieve a highly textured look. The subject of the painting will be the face of a cow. The fee is $65.
The second class on Aug. 1 will teach students how to recreate Van Gogh’s "Sunflowers" painting using acrylic paint. The fee is $55.
The third and final class on Aug. 3 will teach basic watercolor techniques, with the finished product a tree in which two birds are perched. The $55 class will include instruction for wet on wet, salt technique and dry brush.
Individuals and groups may sign up for one or more of the classes. A $15 discount will be offered to those who sign up for all three classes.
