CULLMAN – Earlier this week, the Cullman branch of Alabama Credit Union received a donation of $1,850 from the Pentastar South Car Club’s annual car show. The funds will go toward the credit union’s program that helps feed hungry children, Secret Meals for Hungry Children.

Lauri Legg, branch supervisor at Alabama Credit Union, accepted the donation from Brenda Allison, a representative from the car club.

“This is the third year that those with the car club have been so generous to donate their funds to our program,” said Legg.

The car show, which has been going on for nearly 15 years, became one of the ACU’s annual contributors three years ago.

The program to which the funds will go helps feed elementary-age children and younger throughout Cullman County.

“All donations and money go straight to funding the food. We help 130-150 kids per school year, and the cost is $140 per child for the whole school year. I believe we are working with seven schools, currently. There’s a lot of kids in the state of Alabama that go hungry. You know kids, if they’re not eating, they’re not learning. Their little brains cannot function if they’re not eating, if they’re hungry,” said Legg.

The donation was accepted at the Cullman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership.

“If an individual wanted to donate, there is a fund set up at the Alabama Credit Union, and they can go there to give money,” said Allison. There is also a way to donate straight from the ACU’s website, but that allocates funds throughout the state. So, if one wanted to donate to the program here in Cullman, he or she would need to visit the local ACU location at 1901 Main Ave. SW, Cullman, AL 35055.
