DODGE CITY – The Dodge City Town Council met Thursday night for a regularly-scheduled meeting ahead of this Saturday’s annual Dodge City Day, where the town says that dozens of vendors will be set up in “every nook and cranny.”
The all-day festival promises fun for all and activities for all ages. For automobile enthusiasts, there will be two car shows at Jack’s at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The town’s fire department will be set up at Heritage Pharmacy, where they will be manning a dunking booth. Citizens can come by and dunk Mayor Canada at 10 a.m. All proceeds from the booth will go to the fire department.
The full council was present at Thursday’s meeting, including Canada, Councilman Jason Burney, Councilman Murray Lowe, Councilman Anthony Todd, Councilwoman Inez McDonald and Councilman Ervin Chumley. After minutes and financials were approved, the group moved on to regular business.
Deputy Josh McKnight from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Department reported a wreck had just occurred on the off ramp to the interstate just minutes before the meeting began. He also reported a couple of car break-ins and drug arrests in the area.
The second reading of the School Tax Exemption Ordinance (to exempt certain “covered items” from the municipal sales and use tax during the weekend of August 5-7, 2016 as authorized by the 2016 “Back-to-School” sales tax holiday) was completed. It was approved.
The council approved the renewal of the contract with Air Evac which will cost $3,995.
The council appointed City Clerk Vicki Ogletree to be over the town’s election.
The Dodge City Town Council meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Dodge City Town Hall. The public is welcome to attend. July’s meeting has been changed to Thursday, July 21.
