CULLMAN – Plenty of changes in the administrative part of the Cullman County School system received approval during a regular meeting of the county school board tonight.

The board recommended and approved the transfer of four principal positions. The jobs become effective on July 1.

Good Hope tops the list with changes in the high school and middle school systems. John Hood will transfer from his position as assistant principal at Cold Springs High School to be the new principal at Good Hope High School. Hood replaces Anita Kilpatrick, who resigned to take a position inside the Cullman County Board of Education office.

Alan Dunkling got promoted from assistant principal to principal at Good Hope Middle School. Dunkling takes over for April Tucker, who left in April for a position with the CCBOE office.

Michael Jones leaves as assistant principal of Good Hope High School after two years to become principal at West Point Intermediate School. Jones replaces Shane Barnette, who stepped down in April to become superintendent of the CCBOE.

Kevin Sullins is now the principal at Harmony School. The former assistant principal at West Point High School fills the position vacated by the retirement of Hank Allen.

Good Hope High, Good Hope Middle, Cold Springs High and West Point High will have to fill vacancies in the positions of assistant principal.

The positions will be posted immediately, with the system hoping to have them filled by the next board meeting.

In other news, the board approved maintenance department bids for metal roof panels at Vinemont Elementary and electrical upgrades at Vinemont High School.

Approval of maintenance department public works projects was passed. They include a track project for concrete at Vinemont High, roof repair to the lunchroom at West Point High and electrical repair at Good Hope High.

The board approved a request from Holly Pond High School to build a covered baseball batting cage next to the baseball field. Approval of the request from the Child Nutrition Program for the required increase in breakfast and lunch pricing for the 2016-17 school year, based on USDA paid lunch equity, was granted.

Barnette and the board approved the donation of playground equipment not in use at Garden City Elementary to the town of Garden City and composites of photos to be hung inside the Garden City Town Hall.

The superintendent reported the central office and Cullman County Schools will be closed on July 4 for the celebration of Independence Day.

The next meeting for the CCBOE is scheduled for July 14 at the central office board room at 6 p.m.
