FAIRVIEW – A regular Fairview Town Council meeting was held on Monday night, with a variety of topics on the agenda, including Air Evac insurance and the new senior center.

The council approved the purchase the Air Evac Insurance for the citizens of Fairview at a price of $1,800.

“I can tell you we have already had two people from the community that has been air lifted; one was just a week ago,” said Mayor Dale Seals. “This insurance covers any person that lives in our town limits if they were to have an accident anywhere in Cullman County; they are covered. It’s really a no-brainer when it comes to taking care of our citizens. I know we are using our tax payer’s money to purchase it but it is actually covering those same tax payers, so they are actually able to get something back from what they are doing.”

An update was given on the senior center construction. Construction on the building is set to begin in the middle of June 2016. The center will be located near the park on Welcome Road next to Pizza Done Right.

In new business, there was a request from the Fairview track team for a donation of $500 to help pay for a new travel tent they will carry with them on track meets. This was approved.

The council discussed whether or not to charge a qualifying fee for candidates in the upcoming municipal election. They chose not to charge a fee.

Individual yard sales in the park were another topic of discussion. It was decided that groups like the football team, band or other similar organizations are permitted to use the park for yard sales as a group, but individuals will not be permitted to do so.

Seals suggested adding new picnic tables to the pavilions in the park. He said he will begin pricing metal mesh tables and will hopefully add them one at a time until each of the pavilions has them.

Also, additional lighting will soon be added to the ball field.

This year’s 4th of July fireworks show will be held at the park in Fairview. All are encouraged to attend this family-friendly event.

The next Fairview Town Council meeting will be on July 11 at 6 p.m. at Fairview Town Hall (Moved back a week due to the 4th of July holiday). The public is encouraged to attend.
