BATTLEGROUND – Battleground, on the western border of Cullman County, has been home to Stoney Creek Christian Camp and Camp 2540 for several years now, built on 50 acres and seeking guidance from the New Testament.

Opting to closely follow Matthew 25:40, which reads, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me,” the camps provide a Christian summer camp experience for underprivileged children.

The operation of the Stoney Creek property has been transferred to Liberty Communications, LLC, “a Veteran-owned business with a long history of operating high-adventure and military-style training programs.”

On Flag Day and the United States Army’s birthday, June 14, Camp Liberty will host a large, patriotic event celebrating the opening of Camp Liberty’s Extreme Military Challenge. Starting at 2 p.m., the party will see the raising of a 30’x50’ American flag on a 70’ tall flagpole, which is reported to be the largest flag ever flown in the county.

The event will also include a cookout.

The Extreme Military Challenge will host over 200 men and women from around the world where their curriculum will be “based on the Army's Values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage.”

Additionally, Camp 2540 is planned to take place on June 13-16 with a May 21 registration deadline. There will be openings for a total of 100 children, 50 girls and 50 boys.

Liberty Communications has agreed to continue to donate the use of their facilities for Camp 2540, and the free camp will still be the highlight of many children’s summer. Children who would otherwise not know the fun, adventure and learning of God’s grace without their generosity.

While the children’s camp experience will continue on as before, many other things have changed since the acquisition by Liberty.

The facility can cater to many events including weddings, receptions, training programs, church retreats, family reunions, company picnics, JROTC cadet leadership and training programs, tactical training for law enforcement and much more.

With the numerous amenities such as the swimming pool, a 5,000+ square foot multi-purpose building under construction, running track, obstacle course and more, Camp Liberty is certain to be the “special place, dedicated to the men and women of the Armed Forces and our First Responders, who epitomize the American Spirit. From the sight of Old Glory waving proudly in the Alabama breeze to the sound of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ played daily in honor of our country, you will gain a deep sense of patriotic pride from the moment you arrive on Camp Liberty” which they describe.

Camp Liberty is located at 15719 Alabama Highway 157, Battleground, AL 35179 and their helpful staff can be reached by telephone at 844-962-1776 or email at admissions@xmccamp.com.
