BAILEYTON – A regular Baileyton Town Council meeting was held on Monday night at Baileyton Town Hall. After normal housekeeping items, the council got on with the business of Air Evac insurance policies.

The council had a lengthy discussion with LaTere Jones, Air Evac sales manager, concerning Air Evac insurance policies for the Town of Baileyton and its residents. After the question and answer session was over the council voted and approved the purchase of said insurance. A check for $2,164 was written to AirMedCare and given to Jones during the meeting.

The membership contract signed by Baileyton Mayor Johnny Dyar looked like this:

From a pickup location in Cullman, County, AL;

If the covered person transported is uninsured at the time of transport, Air Evac Lifeteam will bill the covered person at the “Medicare Allowable Rate” for the transport.

Fees:

The Town of Baileyton, AL will pay to AirMedCare Network a total of $2,164 annually.

Upgrade Benefit to Covered Individuals:

Any individual who resides within the boundaries of the Town of Baileyton, AL may elect to obtain a full household membership (which waives T&C exemptions listed above and includes coverage outside the herein listed service area) for an additional $35 per year.

Duration:

This agreement will be effective upon AirMedCare Network’s receipt of (a) this agreement signed by the participating organization on or before July 15, 2016 AND (b) payment for the amount as provided above. This agreement will be effective for one (1) year, and will be evaluated by both parties for renewal at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the one (1) year term.

In other business, the Baileyton Senior Center is doing a fundraiser to purchase two signs from the State for the new bridge on Alabama Highway 67 that was named after Baileyton native Alton Shedd, who was killed in action in Vietnam on May 19, 1967. He left a widow in Baileyton who never remarried and lived until 2002. The state requires the family to pay for the signs, which are going to be $3,600. Shedd's aunt is a member of the senior center and the senior citizens want to contribute to Alton Shedd’s memory and honor of a hometown hero.

The seniors are having fundraisers later this month. There will be two yard sales, one on Saturday, May 28 and the other on Monday, May 30 at the senior center. Monday’s yard sale will also include a car wash. The mayor, town council and others in the community are working to gather donations to put in the sales.

Donations can be taken to the senior center or to Baileyton Town Hall during business hours this month. Monetary donations can be made at any People’s Bank location to the Alton Shedd Memorial Fund.

Also discussed were the lights at the tennis courts. They have been being left on all night long, “which uses a lot of energy.” In order to correct the problem, the council approved a motion to have timers put on the lights.

The ball fields will be rented out to Parkside on Saturday, May 7 for use in a fundraiser for the various ball teams. The charge is $150 per field. The council approved.

The next Baileyton Town Council meeting will be on Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Baileyton Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public.
