CULLMAN – "We had an officer-involved shooting. Two Cullman City Police officers stopped a suspect who was believed to be involved in a high-speed chase last night," said Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper. "The suspect told officers he was not going with them and they would have to kill him."
Culpepper said that the subject, "then pulled a revolver from his pocket and after multiple commands to put the gun down were ignored, the suspect was shot one time by one of the officers."
Culpepper said that the suspect's injury is possibly life-threatening.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital "via helicopter but not sure which one," according to Culpepper.
The chase last night happened after officers ran a vehicle's tag and it came back as a switched tag. When officers pulled the car over, they attempted to get the suspect to surrender, but he got away and ran into the woods. A helicopter was brought in last night to aid in the search, but the suspect escaped. Inside the car, officers found a shotgun and two loaded rifles.
Tonight, officers saw a subject walking down the road, and they believed it was the suspect from Monday night.
The suspect's name has not been released at this time. The officer involved in the shooting has yet to be identified as well, as the investigation continues.
