WEST POINT – The library at West Point High School was packed Tuesday morning as star running back Kobe Smith signed his name on the dotted line with the Huntingdon Hawks of Montgomery.

“It is an absolute blessing,” Smith said in an interview after his signing. “It is overwhelming how blessed I am. To have this opportunity to keep playing.”

Not only was Smith flanked by his coaches, principal and family, he was also surrounded by his teammates. Guys he has grown close to over the last few years.

“They are more than teammates, they are my brothers,” Smith said about the outpouring of support from his gridiron family. “I have been with them all four years, through battles and everything. It meant a lot to have them here.”

In four years at West Point, Smith has seen it all. Ups and downs with the program, coaching changes, playoff runs and his share of accolades, including breaking the Cullman County single season rushing record in his last game as a Warrior. Smith finished with 2,222 yards in 2015, breaking the mark of 2,214 that was set by Vinemont’s Ty Jones in 2013.

“Huntingdon is getting a winner,” head football coach Don Farley said about Smith’s signing.

CullmanSense and the Cullman Tribune would like to extend sincere congratulations and best wishes to Kobe Smith in the next chapter of his football career.
