CULLMAN – Good Hope was pleased to get qualified for the Alabama High School Athletic Association Golf Sub-State after coming in third during the Class 4A, Section 2 Tournament Tuesday at Terri Pines Country Club.
But the scores for the Raiders were not satisfying. The course played different, especially after the NJCAA District 4 Tournament completed its final round at lunchtime.
Good Hope carded a 379 for the 18 holes while Fayette County took to the top of the leaderboard and won it with a 335. Bibb County captured second place with a 349 while Cordova was well behind Good Hope, taking the fourth slot with a 415.
Cole Pearson, the Cullman County Tournament champion, was leading when he came to the 17th hole. Unfortunately, Pearson had a rough time on the 17th, shooting a double bogey and losing the lead to Fayette County's Karlan Trull.
Trull got a birdie on 17, then had a birdie to finish out his round with a 77, two shots ahead of Pearson's 79.
The rest of the scoring for the Raiders following Pearson were Josh Cofer with an 88, Alex Owens a 105 and Riley Eisner a 107.
Gibson Marlin carded a 78 for Fayette County to support Trull's 5-over par 77. Luke Nolan was third for the Tigers with an 85 and Sam Selmon finished with a 95.
Trey Miles topped the list for Bibb County with an 84, Jacob Tucker scored an 86, Matt Tucker an 87 and Joseph Meigs an 89.
The top four individuals to qualify for the Sub-State were Zane Massey of Sipsey Valley with a 90, Lawson Clark of Fayette County a 91, Lofton Hood of West Blocton a 93 and Luke Rigsby of Curry with a 96.
Rigsby defeated Sipsey Valley's Joseph Martin in a one-hole playoff, parring the 18th while Martin wound up with a bogey.
The Sub-State will be at Musgrove Course in Japser. Good Hope played there recently with Pearson shooting a respectable 75. The Raiders are looking to gain a berth to the 4A state under first-year coach Joey House.
