Fairview in the Lead After First Round of County Golf Tournament

CULLMAN – Something normal took place for the Fairview Aggies in the first round of the Cullman County High School Golf Tournament Tuesday at Terri Pines Country Club. They’re winning.

Fairview is on top of the leaderboard with a comfortable 31-stroke advantage over Good Hope after 18 holes. The final round will shift from Terri Pines to Cross Creek Golf Course (formerly Cullman Municipal) Wednesday afternoon.

The Aggies had a team score of 341 with the Raiders getting a 372. West Point is third at 447 followed by Hanceville in fourth place with a 513.

But in the individual category, the battle is up for grabs. Fairview's Austin Scott carried a one-shot lead into the final round after recording an 81 in wet conditions Tuesday.

Good Hope's Cole Pearson is right on his heels with a first round 82, while Holly Pond's Dawson Foust sits in third place, two shots back with an 83.

Hunter Whitehead of Fairview turned in an 85 for fourth place, Hunter McKelvy of Fairview is fifth overall with an 86 while Aggie teammate Seth Lancaster came in with an opening round 89.

Josh Cofer from Good Hope is two shots behind Lancaster with a 91 for seventh place. Alex Owens from Good Hope carded a 95, Hunter Yeager of Fairview a 97 and Brandon Farley of West Point is in 10th place with a 100.

From the girls' opening round, Lindsay Rodgers of West Point is in the lead with an 88 after 18 holes. Rodgers has a four-shot advantage on Fairview's Dalys Mullican with a 92 and six in front of Maci Yeager from the Lady Aggies with a 94.

Fairview is well in front of Hanceville in team play. The Lady Aggies fired a 291 in round one with Hanceville scoring a 355. Brianna Morgan led the Lady Bulldogs with a 110.

The final round of the tournament will get underway at 1 p.m. Weather conditions should continue to improve following a wet course at Terri Pines Tuesday after heavy rain doused the area on Monday.
