FAIRVIEW – On Wednesday, April 6, Cullman Caring for Kids joined forces with Cullman Savings Bank and Hopper’s Family Market and Pharmacy in Fairview to help feed the hungry children of Cullman County. "Running to Feed the Children" was a huge success as members of Cullman Caring for Kids ran through the grocery store, filling a total of five grocery buggies to the max, in just a matter of minutes, with much needed food to add to their food bank.
“Today we collaborated with the community, Cullman Savings Bank and Hopper’s Family Grocery Store at Fairview, who is celebrating their fifth anniversary this Saturday,” said Nancy Bryant, assistant director, Cullman Caring for Kids, still out of breath from the run. “April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and we know that part of stopping child abuse is feeding hungry people, feeding the children, so Hopper’s is giving us food and Cullman Savings Bank just paid for all those buggies full of food plus donated a check for $1,000! We are so excited about that.
“Today we were able to fill five buggies full of food; one of them was just peanut butter,” she smiled. “We just thank them so much. This was fun! We even had two of our board members here helping us push the buggies and filling them up.”
After the groceries were gathered, pictures were taken and everyone caught their breath, there was a small reception for everyone. Cake and cupcakes, which had blue ribbons made of icing, were served. Blue ribbons are used as a part of Child Abuse Awareness Month to represent the bruises on abused children.
John Riley, president and CEO of Cullman Savings Bank, was there for the fun. The bank played a key role in the day’s events.
“Part of our marketing plan is to do things with different customers and bring awareness to the different things that are going on in the community,” said Riley. “Cullman Caring for Kids, who is a customer of ours, was having their Child Abuse Awareness Month. We put the two together to have some fun, raise some money and got them some food.”
The day was filled with fun and laughter and resulted in lots of food for the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank. Many thanks to Hopper’s Family Market and Pharmacy, Cullman Savings Bank and all who participated in Wednesday’s “Running to Feed the Children” food sweep. The children of Cullman County are truly blessed to have people like them to help in times of need.
