HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s men’s golf team finished third Tuesday at the Glen Lakes Invitational in Foley, shooting a 13-over par 877.

The Lions have finished third in three of their last four tournaments this spring, sandwiched around a runner-up finish at the Stonebridge Invitational in Albany, Ga., earlier this month.

Wallace State sophomore Sylas Elliott, a 2nd-team NJCAA All-American last season, continued his strong spring, finishing tied for fifth after carding an even-par 216 (71-72-73) at Glen Lakes.

Freshman Trey Hanvey shot a 3-over 219 for the Lions, with a 76-71-72 over the 54-hole event, and sophomore Eli Marty finished with a 221. Marty began the tournament with a 4-under 68, the best mark over the opening 18 holes. He added a 75 and 78 over the next two rounds.

Wallace State sophomore Walker Gordon placed 16th with a 223 (78-68-77).

Wallace State (291-286-300) finished 15 shots behind tournament champion Central Alabama. Meridian (Mississippi) Community College was second with an 875.

The Lions can now turn their attention to a potential three-peat at the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) tournament.  Wallace State begins play in the conference tournament on April 10-12 in Brewton. The Lions have won back-to-back titles and 12 overall under coach Dan York. Elliott was the tournament’s low medalist last season as the Lions outlasted Faulkner State in a one-hole playoff.
