GOOD HOPE – The Good Hope City Council held a scheduled meeting Monday night at the Good Hope City Hall.
The meeting began with an invocation followed by a roll call. The minutes from the Feb. 22 City Council meeting was approved. The financials for February 2016 was reviewed and approved.
City of Good Hope bank balances as of March 14, 2016 are as follows:
- General Fund – $407,068.94
- Sewer Account – $22,472.60
- Gas Tax Account – $1,661.49
- Special Street Account – $1,612.49
- Park and Recreation Account – $8,212.82
- Alcohol Account – $326,220.73
- Atrip Grant Account – $88,166.09
- 2012 ADEC Account – $24.29
- Petty Cash – $68.63
- Alabama Trust Fund – $5,203.52
- Cash Reserve – $112,987.39
- Total – $1,011,661.39
Standing committee reports including a variety of business, including:
John Harris, Place 1, requested two “Children Playing” signs be added to Calvert Road due to the large amount of children in the area. The request was approved.
Maxie Jones, Place 2, asked the council to consider purchasing 14 acres of road frontage land around the car wash in the near future. No decision made.
Susan Eller, Place 3, brought up a sewage infiltration situation at the trailer park. Work is underway to correct the problem.
Taft Dillishaw, Place 4, mentioned that the school is having a canned food drive. He discussed the need for boxes of food to be picked up and empty boxes secured for additional cans.
Matthew Glover, Place 5, reported that baseball signups are over at the parks, and teams are now practicing.
An Amendment Resolution for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for modifications at Cupp Road and AL Highway 69 was discussed and approved.
Resolution reads as follows:
Whereas, the City of Good Hope has received a CDBG Grant to construct improvements to Highway 69 as part of an economic development project that serves the Wilco Hess / Wendy’s businesses;
Whereas, the City of Good Hope is requesting to amend the scope of the project to only include improvements to the north side of the highway; to eliminate the need for the proposed new traffic signal, and to add a modification to the existing traffic signal at Cupp Road;
Therefore, the Good Hope City Council is submitting a Formal Amendment request to the Alabama Department of Economic & Community Affairs (ADECA) requesting approval to change the scope of the project; and
That, Jerry Bartlett, Mayor, is hereby authorized to sign and submit all required documents to ADECA requesting approval of the formal amendment.
The resolution changes the scope of the CDBG grant project pertaining to AL Highway 69 and Cupp Road. Improvements will only be done on the north side of the highway; instead of a new traffic signal, the existing traffic signal at Cupp Road will be modified.
