CULLMAN – On Saturday, March 19, Sportsman Lake Park will hold its semi-annual County-Wide Yard Sale from 7a.m.- 3p.m.

The event, held once in fall and once in spring, has been going on for about five years, according to Sara Teichmiller, director of marketing for Cullman County Parks and Recreation.

The event came about as a way to help those in the city and county who want to have yard sales of their own, but for various reasons don’t.  “Within the city, it’s a hassle to apply for a permit to hold yard sales, and it’s hard to attract foot traffic in the county when holding yard sales,” explained Teichmiller.

Registration is open now for those who wish to secure a spot. Reserving a 10’x10’ area in the grass costs $10, and reserving a pavilion is $20. According to Teichmiller, although registration for places is open the day of the event, it is wisest to pre-register by going to the Sportsman Lake Park office and speaking with park representatives beforehand.

The yard sale is usually widely attended.

“The whole park is packed within the first hour,” Teichmiller said. “Around 1,000 people attend each year.”

While there will be no local vendors at the event selling food or goodies, the park will open up all its amenities, including concessions, by the end of the day on Saturday.

Sportsman Lake Park is located at 1544 Sportsman Lake Rd. NW in Cullman and can be reached at 256-734-3052.
