Homicide in Battleground Community; Suspect in Custody

UPDATE (approximately 9:30 p.m.): Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick has confirmed reports that 22-year-old Wesley Taylor was shot and killed tonight in the 5800 block of County Road 101 in the Battleground community. More details will be released as they are available.

 

BATTLEGROUND –  A homicide has occurred in the Battleground community in Cullman County. A suspect has been taken into custody by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Department.

At approximately 5 p.m. this evening, March 12, the CCSO received a call about a shooting incident in the 5800 block of County Road 1101.

“Once deputies arrived, we did confirm that this was a homicide,” said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry, when reached by phone for comment.

“This is an isolated incident, so there’s no danger to the community,” Gentry said. “We do have a suspect in custody at this time. Once we are able to complete our investigation, we will release other details. My heart and my prayers go out to the victim’s family.”

When asked if the incident was domestic in nature, Gentry said that with the investigation being in the early stages, the CCSO could not release that information yet.

No details about the victim’s identity or manner of death are being released as this time.

“Investigators will be working throughout the night, so we may try to tomorrow do a formal release of information,” Gentry stated.

Gentry reiterated that his thoughts are prayers are with the family of the victim tonight.
