GOOD HOPE – The gravel parking lot behind Good Hope Town Hall was packed full of cars, trucks and school buses in anticipation of a long afternoon of varsity softball action, but Mother Nature had a different idea.
Not even an hour into the annual Umpire's Tournament, the flood gates opened. Standing water soon surrounded home plate as well as shortstop and around the first and third base bags, causing a cancellation of the remaining games.
Before the stoppage, Cold Springs held an 8-2 lead over Vinemont, Good Hope had topped Addison 3-1 and Hayden handled Fairview 6-0.
None of the remaining games will be made up. The JV portion of the tournament starts tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m., weather permitting. The bracket portion of the tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
