Funeral services for Henry L. Taylor, 96, of Hanceville will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem East Baptist Church; Russ Fox and grandson Joby Crane officiating; with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Taylor will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Taylor was called home by his Creator and Lord on Monday, February 15, 2016. He was born January 23, 1920 in Falkville to Charles and Versie Mae Thompson Taylor. He served his country as a Navy signalman in World War II. In 1945, he married Lavern Bailey. They enjoyed over seventy wonderful years together, raising seven children; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a faithful husband, loving father, creator of fine guitars and a talented musician.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Lavern Taylor; sons, Larry (Linda) Taylor, Garry (Jan) Taylor and Bobby (Kim) Taylor; daughters, Joyce (Doug) Scott, Linda (Dr. Joe) Crane, Terri Taylor and Janie (Tony) Novara; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Taylor Family Endowed Scholarship at the Business School at Auburn University.
