CULLMAN – Cullman High varsity tennis teams played well on Thursday and Friday with impressive wins over 7A Hazel Green and 6A rival Decatur.
The varsity boys swept Hazel Green 9-0 on Thursday night. Scoring wins included Donny Camp in No. 1 singles, Hunter Manley in No. 2 singles, Jacob Lambert in No. 3 singles, Connor Borresen in No. 4 singles, Check Freeman in No. 5 singles and Parker Adams in No. 6 singles. In doubles, Borresen/Camp won 10-0, Manley/Lambert won 10-0 and Freeman/Adams won 10-0.
The varsity girls defeated Hazel Green 6-3 with scoring wins from Gentry Bussman in No. 3 singles, Kate Hood in No. 4 singles, Emily Graves in No. 5 singles and Nicki Rakestraw in No. 6 singles. In doubles, Bussman/Hood won 10-3 and Emily Graves/Emily Mullins won 10-5.
On Friday, the boys also defeated Decatur 9-0 with scoring wins from Donny Camp in No. 1 singles, Hunter Manley in No. 2 singles, Jacob Lambert in No. 3 singles, Connor Borresen in No. 4 singles, Check Freeman in No. 5 singles and Parker Adams in No. 6 singles. The season is off to a strong start with wins against several great programs. Varsity will play 7A James Clemens Tuesday night, Feb. 16, at home, weather-permitting.
