HANCEVILLE – The Cullman County Basketball Tournament continued Monday night with varsity action for the first time in the tournament.

GIRLS
The Holly Pond Lady Broncos took the court as the No. 2 seed to take on the Vinemont Lady Eagles as the No. 7 seed.

Vinemont controlled the opening tip, but it was Holly Pond who controlled the game. Ruth Horton scored the first points for the Lady Broncos with a deep three and Holly Pond never looked back. Full court pressure caused turnovers and led to easy points for the Lady Broncos, helping them build a healthy 24-7 advantage after one.

The picked up in the second where they left off in the first, outscoring Vinemont 11-2 in the quarter to take a 35-9 lead to halftime. Horton finished the first half with 17 points.

Holly Pond kept the pressure on in the second half, doubling up Vinemont and leading to a hot clock in the fourth. The Lady Broncos went on to win 58-15 and will play again Thursday at 7:30 p.m. versus the winner of Cold Springs and West Point.

BOYS
The Cold Springs Eagles came in as the No. 4 seed, taking the court against the No. 5 seed Fairview Aggies. The Eagles came out hot, hitting from all over the floor and forcing Fairview to play Cold Springs' game.

After being down as much as 10 points, the Aggies settled down and got in rhythm. They pulled to within five on a quarter ending three-point basket by Tyler Ball.

The Eagles continued to shoot the lights out in the second, opening the quarter on a 22-3 run that saw Fairview go scoreless for seven minutes and fifty-eight seconds of the eight-minute quarter. After one half of play, Cold Springs held a 43-19 lead.

Cold Springs continued to pour in the points in the third quarter. They outscored the Aggies 23-12 to push the lead to 35 and ensure the fourth quarter would be played with a hot clock.

Sitting on a 35 point lead, the Eagles slowed the ball down a bit, working for the easy shot. They went on to win the game 72-39 and will face Holly Pond Friday in the semi-final match.
