Obituary: Lucy “Dean” Ashley

Lucy "Dena" passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016. She was born on March 10, 1923 to Dewey and Hassie Speakman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Rev. William "Wally" Ashley; seven sisters, Alda Lena Douglas, Mildred Green, Jewell Long, Letha Monk, Corine Fowler, Willodean Pace and Betty Darby.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James (Gloria) and Danny (Joyce), adopted son Jonathan. Mrs. Ashley leaves behind eight grandchildren, Tina Fernandez, Cindy South, Greg (Briana) Ashley, Miranda (Sterling) Kimberl, Chris (Kimberly) Ashley, Pamela (Scott) Burks, Amanda (Dennis) Holmes, and Shea (Jo) McGill; 15 great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Holli), Jovan, Aaron Fernandez, Destinie Westmoreland, Ashley Kimberl and William Kimberl, Andrew Ashley and Hannah Ashley, Savannah Ashley, Amber Ashley and Tiffany Ashley, Tanner Burks and Alexa Burks, Erin Holmes and Leah Halbrooks; Six great-great grandchildren, Christopher, Natalie and Nicholas Fernandez, Isaiah McGill, Gabriel Fernandez, Jeremiah Halbrooks; a brother, Rufus (Marjorie) Speakman; two sisters, Mary (Floyd) Dyer, Carolyn (Gerald) Hafer; two sisters-in-law Becky Blakely and Sue Green; special friends Alton and Ann Page; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Lucy loved working in all the churches where they served, and working with young girls in the Mission Programs.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Moss-Service Chapel with Moss-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday.

Pall bearers will be Chris Ashley, Sterling Kimberl, Greg Ashley, Alton Page, Roger Long and Stanley Speakman. Honorary pall bearers are Jo McGill, Mike Fowler, Roy Fowler and Charlie Long.
