Mrs. Maddox passed away Monday, December 28th, 2015 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joe Wayne Maddox and her parents, the Reverend Doyle B. Walker and Stella Mae Walker. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Eileen Bryant Burke and Kathie Shockley, the wonderful ladies who provided excellent care and support for Kathryn and the family.

Mrs. Maddox was a teacher at many schools over the course of her career in Business Education. She taught at Eva, Brewer, Hanceville, and Holly Pond High School, Wallace State Community College, and Alabama A & M University. Since retiring, Kathryn remained active in the Beta Delta Teachers’ Sorority, Relay for Life, and Cullman Educators Retirees Association.

Her love for teaching was evident in the dedication and hard work she brought to every position she held. She always believed in her students and encouraged them to do their best and achieve their goals. She had many fond memories of the students she met through teaching and the lives she touched with her caring.

Kathryn was very active in her church, Corinth West Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School classes, played the piano for services, and worked with music in Vacation Bible School for years. She also sang with a ladies’ group at the church for many years—The Corinth Singers.

In lieu of flowers, the family will be establishing a scholarship to honor Mrs. Maddox’s life and devotion to education. Donations accepted at BBVA Compass, Attention: Melanie Maddox.
