Michael Paul Pruitt, 62, of Austin, Texas, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 of an extended illness. Visitation will be held at Moss Service Funeral Home on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, 17478 US Highway 31 North, Cullman, Alabama.
Dr. Pruitt was a 1971 National Honor Society graduate of Cullman High School; a 1975 Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa Psychology graduate of the University of Alabama; a 1979 graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham Medical School (Doctorate); and, completed his Psychiatry Residency Internship at the University of Florida School of Medicine in 1983.
Dr. Pruitt most recently was a self-employed physician at Adolescent and Adult Psychiatric Services in Jacksonville, Florida (1992-2014). He served as a past President of the Jacksonville Psychiatric Society and was a past Vice-President of the Florida Psychiatric Society where he received the 2012 Friendship Award. Dr. Pruitt was a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association since 2008.
Dr. Pruitt was preceded in death by his father, Paul Pruitt. His grandparents, Louis and Ruby Pruitt and Frank and Lula Armstrong.
Dr. Pruitt is survived by his mother, Susie Pruitt; two brothers, Keith (Tammy) Pruitt and Wade (Leslie) Pruitt; three nephews Joshua (Emily), Benjamin and Clay Pruitt; one great-niece Evelyn Pruitt; Dolby Linwood; and, many cousins.
Dr. Pruitt was a very kind and compassionate physician, son, brother, uncle and friend.
