Fairview Lady Aggies Resume Their Winning Ways

HANCEVILLE — Important business was taken care of by the Fairview Lady Aggies Thursday night in defeating the Hanceville Lady Bulldogs 66-33 at Lane Horton Gymnasium.

The win sends the Lady Aggies into a Friday night encounter against the Holly Pond Lady Broncos with the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Cullman County Basketball Tournament at stake.

Both are 4-0 in county regular season play. This adds to the excitement of it being Joe Shults Night as well in a matchup two weeks before Christmas on the Fairview campus.

Fairview went on a 40-13 scoring spree in the second half against Hanceville to turn a 26-20 halftime cushion into a one-sided affair.

The Lady Aggies did it behind the scoring of Abbi Taylor and Taylor Yeager who combined for 19 second half points, 13 during a 24-9 spurt in the third quarter.

Taylor was seven of 10 from the field with Yeager going seven of 10 in 2-point attempts. The sophomore in the post, Taylor, scored 16. Yeager, the sophomore floor leader, had 15. Jada Golden, another youngster, netted 10 with senior Lizzie Garrison delivering seven.

Fairview is now 8-3 on the season.

For Hanceville, the Lady Bulldogs had 14 from senior Taylor Hollingsworth and seven by Kaela Hall. Foul trouble forced Karmen Johnson and Desi Hackney out of the game as they combined for just seven points on the frontline.

The Lady Bulldogs are 6-3 and have a Friday night encounter with Cold Springs at home.

Hanceville 70 – Fairview 40
A 28-point assault on the basket in the third quarter with five of the 11 field goals coming from three-point range. Xavier Malcom and Issac Weissend netted two and Jose Orozco delivered one.

That allowed the Bulldogs to break open a 29-21 lead going into the second half into a 57-33 lead by the end of the third.

Malcom led the Hanceville attack with 20 points, Orozco scored 13, RJ Evans had 13 and Weissend tallied 12. The Bulldogs are 7-3 and 4-1 in the county standings, currently second to Holly Pond’s 4-0 county record.

For Fairview, Austin Fletcher pumped in 14 and Truman Boyd hit for 10. The Aggies fell to 2-7 and 2-2 in the county standings.
