GOOD HOPE — Holly Pond came out like a house of fire Friday night as they visited the campus of Good Hope to take on the Raiders. Great defense and superb shooting led to an 8-0 that started the game and forced a time-out from the Raiders.

Following the time-out, Good Hope got on the board with a 3-pointer from Matt Cofer. Kenneth Lyle added a trifecta as well, but Holly Pond kept the pressure on, pulling ahead by 12 and forcing another stoppage.

Coming out of the second time-out, Good Hope put together a 7-2 run to cut the Holly Pond lead to five but the Broncos scored the last bucket of the quarter to push the lead to seven. The scores stood at 22-15 after one quarter of play.

The second quarter was dominated by Holly Pond on the boards and in the paint. The Broncos dropped in 18 while keeping the Raiders to just 10 to take a 40-25 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

Enjoying a 15-point lead but not satisfied, Holly Pond opened the third quarter with 10 unanswered points before Issac McDonald ended the drought.

Holding Good Hope to 8 total points in the 3rd quarter, Holly Pond cruised into the fourth quarter with a 51-33 lead. The Raiders would fight hard in the fourth cutting the lead to as little as 13 but ultimately fell to the Broncos 62-43.

Things looked good for the Lady Raiders in the early stages of the game, controlling the opening tip and quickly putting Holly Pond on their heels with a layup, forcing a turnover and hitting another layup.

After settling into the game, the Lady Broncos answered with back to back threes from Ruth Horton and Gambrill to grab the lead. The teams would play even for the remainder of the quarter and after eight minutes, the score was knotted at 15.

Holly Pond started to pull away in the second quarter with a mix of a smothering defense, cold shooting from the Lady Raiders and being in the double bonus at the line. The Lady Broncos went five for nine from the charity stripe in the second to open up a 10-point lead heading to the locker room.

With several players in foul trouble, Good Hope had to play conservative on the defensive end of the floor but still were able to hang with Holly Pond for most of the quarter.

However, the last two minutes were ruled by the Lady Broncos. Horton buried a pair of threes, Melissa Clingman added a pair of easy layups and Gambrill nailed a three and hit a free throw pushing the lead to 21.

The Lady Raiders played hard in the fourth, but they were unable to overcome the Holly Pond offense and fell to the Lady Broncos 68-49.
