CULLMAN – Smart911 is a new program created by Rave Mobile Safety. The voluntary program is free to Cullman County residents. To sign up, residents create a Safety Profile online and provide information about themselves and their household. This will be available when a call to 9-1-1 is made.
Residents enter all information into a Safety Profile at smart911.com. The more information included, the faster police, fire and emergency services can respond.
The information from the profile will automatically display on the 9-1-1 call taker's screen when an emergency call is made.
The account is secure, and the user controls what information is in their profile.
Anytime someone makes an emergency call the 9-1-1 system will recognize the individual from any of the phones that are registered with his or her Safety Profile.
Smart911 can be used for when a child goes missing, a fire occurs, or a medical emergency arises.
If there is an accident at home, on the job, or in the car, the app could make a terrible situation much less severe.
Gordon L. Sandlin, Cullman County E911 Administrative Director, said, “Smart911 is designed to give first responders information that normally they would not have, even if the caller cannot communicate verbally with the PSAP. We are even able to ping the phone if need be. This could save lives.”
According to Sandlin, Cullman is one of the five counties in Alabama utilizing Smart911.
Sandlin also explained Smart911 makes 9-1-1 and emergency responders aware of many details they would not have known previously.
For example, fire crews can arrive at a house fire knowing how many people live in the home and the location of bedrooms.
EMS can be advised of allergies or specific medical conditions, and police can have the photo of a missing child in seconds rather than minutes or hours.
