CULLMAN – This Thursday, June 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church, Cullman Relay for Life will hold its final significant gathering of the year.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Relay for Life Team Spirit Wrap-Up Party, but according to Gail Crutchfield, Publicity Chair for Relay for Life in Cullman, the gathering is targeted to individuals that were part of a team that participated in fundraising throughout the year.
The event will celebrate both individuals and teams. Among the recognitions to given will be: best tent, T-shirt contest winner, and the winner of the Relay Idol talent show that was held the night of the main Relay for Life event on May 1.
Crutchfield has been involved with Relay for Life for about twenty years. She said that the participation in ‘Relay’ in Cullman has waned in the previous years, but that it is increasing lately. She cited the storm and tornadoes of 2011 as a catalyst for the downturn in participation. But, since moving the event from Heritage Park to the Cullman Fair Grounds, the annual Relay for Life event has been revitalized under the guidance of Crutchfield and other organizers.
The organization set its goal for fundraising at $150k for this year, and are currently at $130k, according to Crutchfield.
