CULLMAN – The Mayor is the most visible of the city's elected officials and is held publicly accountable for the performance of city government. He serves as the Executive Officer of the City of Cullman and is responsible for the management of the city.

A Mayor is elected every four years, and the Mayor's term runs concurrent with the terms of the City Council members.

John Allen Dunlap was elected Mayor of Cullman in 1932. He was later re-elected to three more four-year terms before being defeated for a fifth term by J.W. Nesmith.

Max A. Townson was elected Mayor in 2008 following Donald E. Green, who was Mayor from 2000 to 2008.
