HANCEVILLE – On Saturday, May 30 and Saturday, June 6, the Hanceville Police Department will hold their fourth annual Ladies Firearms Class. At 7:30 a.m. the doors to the Hanceville City Hall will open and on-site registration will begin. The classes themselves will start up at 8 a.m. and will go until 12 p.m.
There will be two hours of the participants being in a classroom-type setting, and two hours of firing.
The classes are meant to teach basic safety. According to Hanceville Police Chief Bob Long, “Women need to know how to defend themselves,” and he hopes that these classes help women to do just that.
The idea for the classes came about four years ago when the Hanceville firing range was in construction. Since the classes started, 149 people have gone through the course.
Along with being the Police Chief, Bob Long is a firearms instructor and leads the classes.
Women who would like to attend the classes can and sign up on the day of the class, or e-mail Hanceville251@yahoo.com to register beforehand.
The necessary accouterments for attending the class are a weapon, 50 rounds of ammunition and a holster.
For those that don't already own these items, they are are available for purchase from Hanceville Guns and Ammo which is across the street from Hanceville City Hall.
Perhaps the best part about the class is that it is free of charge. The City of Hanceville allots a certain amount of money to the program to make it possible.
There will be refreshments provided at the event as well. The classes are the same on both days, so if someone attends one weekend and not the next, they will still be up to date.
