CULLMAN – The Saturday before Easter, April 4, Sportsman Lake Park will be hosting an Easter egg hunt. In the past, local radio station WKUL has hosted the event, but due to complications, the station was forced to drop out of sponsoring the event, leaving the park scrambling to find sponsors.

“It is important for kids to have a place to come,” Park Manager Delitha Marchman said. “Not all the kids have a place to go where they can be with other kids; like church or something. This is good so they can come and socialize and be in the park.”

Marchman said that the park hopes to put out 10,000 eggs. According to Marchman, as many as 800 people have been known to attend the event in the past. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning and will go until about 11 a.m.

“Once we get the eggs ready and let the kids go at them, it usually doesn’t take too long for them to all get found,” Marchman said.

The park will be fully open, with the concession stand open for business, and all the rides will be running. Along with classic candy-filled eggs, there will be prize eggs, which will feature tickets for free ice cream and other treats. The free to attend event will be held near the stage at Sportsman Lake Park.
