UPDATED: CCSO Deputy Brian Shadowens struck while conducting traffic stop on I-65 onramp

CULLMAN – CCSO Deputy Brian Shadowens has been released from CRMC after he was struck by a passing motorist on the southbound onramp of I-65 at Exit 299.

“He has been released from the hospital. He did receive some bumps and bruises but he escaped any major injuries, which we are all thankful for,” Sheriff Matt Gentry Said.

The incident occurred at 6:50 p.m.

In a previous interview Sheriff Gentry said the driver who struck Deputy Shadowens had been cooperative. He said there is no suspected foul play, such as intoxication, on behalf of the driver.

"The driver pulled over immediately and went to check on the Deputy," Sheriff Gentry said. "I don't believe there was any malicious intent."


February 13, 7:38 p.m.

CULLMAN – A Cullman County Sheriff's Office Deputy, whose name is being withheld until family members are contacted, was struck by a passing motorist while conducting a traffic stop on the southbound onramp at Exit 299.

"The Deputy is banged up and has been transported to CRMC for a full evaluation," Sheriff Matt Gentry. "Currently the AST (Alabama State Troopers) are investigating the incident."

Sheriff Gentry said the driver who struck the Deputy has been cooperative. He said there is no suspected foul play, such as intoxication, on behalf of the driver.

"The driver pulled over immediately and went to check on the Deputy," Sheriff Gentry said. "I don't believe there was any malicious intent."

More details will be released as they are made available.

"We will let everyone know about the Deputy and his condition later on tonight," he said. "I just want to thank the quick response of Cullman EMS and AST."
