CULLMAN – Auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of Aladdin were held on Monday at the Cullman Civic Center. The auditorium was packed with anxious parents and excited kids from ages 5 to 18.

“The children will audition for about two hours,” said Kelly Pulliam at the Cullman Civic Center. “Then they will come back at around 5:30 p.m. to see what parts they are assigned. They will practice each day after school for the rest of the week beginning at 3:30 in the afternoon. Then this Saturday, they will put on two performances, one at 2 p.m. and the other at 6 p.m.”

Missoula Children's Theatre is a non-profit organization that fosters enrichment and education in children of all ages through theatre. They are best known for their tour project, which is the largest touring children's theatre program in the United States. They work with more than 65,000 children in nearly 1,200 week-long residencies each year and cover all 50 states, as well as 16 other countries.

Each week, up to 45 teams of two tour actor/directors travel to a new town, audition and cast 50-60 local children for an original musical production. They then run rehearsals and teach workshops. At the end of the week, the children perform a full-scale musical, including full costumes, sets, lights and props that the directors bring along with them.

“Willa auditioned tonight and got a part in the Missoula Children's Theatre production of Aladdin,” said proud mom Amy Smith of Vinemont. “The work these kids do in a week is incredible and you and your kids will absolutely enjoy the play! She's done it for three years and I have always been impressed!”
