Funeral services for Betty Jean Owen, 84, of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel, Debbie Williams officiating with interment in Heritage Cemetery.
Cullman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Owen passed away Monday, January 19th, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1930, in Louisville, Kentucky to parents, Thomas and Julia Grimes. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy as a member of the swim team and captain of the field hockey team. She also enjoyed spending time with her Tennessee walking horse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles H. Owen; three brothers, Harry (Mary) Grimes, Thomas Grimes and Scott Grimes; one sister, Mary (Ted) Kraft; and a niece, Debbie Grimes.
She is survived by three daughters; Denise M. Owen, Sherry J. (David) Lee and Debbie O. (Dennis) Morgan; three grandchildren, Chad D. (Lorri) Lee, Jenna M. Hudson and Emily O. Hudson; five great-grandchildren, Gracie Elizabeth Lee, Zoey Beth Lee, Samuel “Owen” Hudson, Dalyn Emerson Hudson and Everette Cole Myers; nephew, Tommy (Trayce) Grimes; nieces, Jean (Russell) Olderman, Maureen (Charles) Suhre, Donna Grimes, and Mimi (Paul) Sheets; also dearest friends John and Ann Annable.
Betty delighted in her life’s role as a happy homemaker. She relished being a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She enjoyed any activity that involved her family and friends. Her sweet spirit and her friendly smile will be sorely missed by us all, but will live in our hearts forever. During her brief stay at Victorian Manor, many cherished friendships were made.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County, 1912 AL Hwy 157, Cullman, AL 35058.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
