CULLMAN – The new Cullman Emergency Medical Services building is up and running! An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony was held recently to celebrate the completion of the facility and tour its great features. The previous facility was destroyed by the tornado on April 27, 2011 and after serious consideration, was rebuilt in its same location. They had the groundbreaking of the EMS building on March 27, 2014.

Board member Clint Frey expressed the importance of the facility regarding its ideal location. As a part of the building and grounds committee, they were responsible for finding a location for the EMS building. “We were tasked with finding a replacement for this location. We looked all over town at dozens and dozens of locations and cost projections and response time.” He said that the response time was a critical factor to consider. They knew the building had to be sufficiently located for the sake of the public.

“We kept coming back to this same place and we finally came up with the idea to tear out the wall and use downstairs for the administrative offices. Previously they only used the upper floor for four ambulances with the offices in the back.” Now the offices are downstairs and at least a dozen ambulances can fit in the upper level.

“The best feature of its location is the response time. It was the best location we could find,” he said. Frey said that the building was purchased using insurance money along with other monetary funds. “We had to be really careful about how much money we spent.” The new facility included many critical decisions, but the most critical decision to make as a board was the location. “We looked at so many places,” Frey concluded.
