GOOD HOPE – Good Hope is once again offering a delicious hot meal to all on Thanksgiving. This is an annual event held by the city that offers a high quality meal for free. It has been such a success that they have had to up the number of plates they give out. So if you, or someone you know could use a yummy lunch, drive on over to Good Hope School.

“For the past six years they [the city] have been doing this to develop a sense of community,” said Christie Chamblee, city clerk. “We want people to come together and visit. The city pays for all the food and we also have volunteers like seniors, the boy scouts and anyone that generally wants to do a kind act.”

You can dine in, take out or have plates delivered to those who need it, such as the elderly or handicapped. There is a limit of 10 plates per car in the drive-thru, and beverages are only served to those who dine in.

“The city wants to show their appreciation for their community,” said Chamblee. “The food is very high quality and is very good. We are definitely having turkey and dressing, green beans and a dessert. When you eat in there, a sweet tea or Pepsi product is provided as well.”

In previous years, volunteers served 1,200 plates to the community. That was increased to 1,500 plates last year, and Chamblee said that they were gone by 2:30 p.m.

“They go really fast,” Chamblee said. “People will be lined up at our drive thru at 11a.m. The local boy scout troop helps with the drive-thru line and are so important to making the event successful.”

If you know someone in need of a meal this holiday, or if you are just wanting to get out and socialize with your community, then you don’t want to miss this. Events like these are a great way for the city to show its support and care for its residents.
