COLD SPRINGS – For a decade, the sport of cross country running from the high school perspective in Cullman County has been controlled by Cold Springs.
In showing their strength when it comes to the county championship meet, the Lady Eagles and Eagles continued their dominance Monday afternoon on the Cold Springs campus.
The Lady Eagles won their ninth consecutive county championship with the Eagles taking home the hardware for the 11th straight year.
In the early part of the 2014-15 Cullman County athletic season, Cold Springs is standing above the rest. The success of the cross country teams in the county comes four days after the volleyball program claimed their first ever county title.
Cold Springs controlled the ladies' division with 20 points as a team and five finishing in the top eight. Sadie Terry crossed the finish line at Cranford Stricklin Stadium with a time of 21:52. Her teammate Ashleigh White was not far behind, taking second with a time of 22:29.
Emily Campbell grabbed fourth place at 23:09, Alyssa Jackson was seventh at 23:53 and Abby Burrow eighth with a time of 24:09. The five scored points from the team concept. Rachel Haynes wound up 10th for Clayborn Campbell's Lady Eagles, coming in at 24:21.
For Fairview, Kesli Davis finished a very strong third place with a time of 22:51. Kennedy Chambers earned sixth place at 23:36, August Stancil took 11th with a time of 24:56, America Diaz 14th at 25:37 and Alexus Lindsey 15th at 25:38.
Abby Wilson from West Point led her team with a fifth place finish of 23:24. The best finish for Holly Pond was Katie Burnham in ninth place at 24:16. Heather Middleton earned All-County honors for Good Hope with a 12th place finish of 25:08.
Kramer Crider, Jared Stanley and C.J. Lang were first, second and third to propel Cold Springs to top honors once again in its division.
Crider came in at 17:20, Stanley's time was 17:37 and Lang with a close third place time of 17:48.
The Eagles finished with 32 points, Fairview was second scoring 60 followed by West Point with 74, Holly Pond 91, Vinemont 111 and Hanceville 147.
For the Aggies to claim the runner-up berth to the Eagles, Jerrami Browder was 7th at 18:37, Reece Walker 8th at 18:38 and Cody Fallin 11th with a time of 18:47.
Joey Riggs stood out for West Point, coming home fourth with a time of 18:11. Hunter Green led Vinemont with a sixth place finish of 18:19. The best time for Hanceville was recorded by Casey Guthrey in 10th place at 18:44.
With the county championships once again under their belts, the Lady Eagles and Eagles finish out the regular season this weekend in a meet with St. Bernard then will host the sectional meet the following week.
