CULLMAN – Christ Lutheran Church held a free pancake breakfast for the community on Saturday. With a brand new church and a fresh take on life, the folks at Christ Lutheran were excited to share their wonderful church with the world.

Walking into the Christ Lutheran’s Fellowship Hall on that beautiful morning, people were greeted with a warm hello and the wonderful smell of pancakes and sausage. Smiling faces eagerly piled hot food onto plates, while others poured either hot coffee or fruit juice at the end of the line. Tables full of happy folks ate and had a great time. As hoped, many laughs and stories were shared throughout the morning while spending time as one in spirit.

Over the years, many meals have been cooked and shared throughout the congregation. For example, my children grew up going to monthly family night suppers with their grandparents in the old church’s basement/fellowship hall. In the past, fundraisers involving food were sponsored by the church to raise money for different activities and supplies. Let’s face it, people need food in order to survive physically, but they also need spiritual food in order to survive as well. This is where Christ Lutheran hopes to make a difference.

“We wanted to feed the community as a way of sharing what we have with others,” said Elaine Kreps, church member. “We also want to make our presence known throughout town and invite our neighbors to stop by and visit us any time.”

The church hopes to offer a free meal to the community at least once a month, but there is no set schedule as to when they will begin doing so just yet. Meanwhile, the men and women at Christ Lutheran ask that everyone mark their calendars for October 10, 2014 as they will host their annual German dinner at the church. It is a well known fact that the event is awesome and the food is out of this world.

Christ Lutheran Church has so many wonderful things to offer, so if you are new to the area, searching for some direction, or maybe looking for a new church home, please stop in and pay them a visit. Down to earth and very friendly, they would truly enjoy welcoming you as their special guest.

“Our church family ranges from the very young to the old,” explained Sandy Niiler, church pastor. “We are a talented group of people with interesting backgrounds.  We truly are a mix of God's children. And every Sunday, we gather to be refreshed in God's Word, forgiven of our sins, strengthened in faith and hope, and united in fellowship to serve Christ and those we meet.”

“During worship, we follow a liturgy, or an organized pattern for worship grounded in Scripture,” Niiler continued. “We sing traditional hymns and offer Holy Communion each Sunday. Worship is at 10:30 a.m. with summer worship (June, July and August) beginning at 9:30 a.m.”
