A six-game losing streak ended for the Bulldogs Monday afternoon as they kept their playoff hopes alive with a 1A, Area 11 win at St. Bernard. Thanks to five extra base hits, the Bulldogs gave John Everett an early lead to work with in which he threw a complete five-inning shutout, allowing the Saints two hits, two walks and struck out six batters.
Everett smacked the first of five doubles for the Bulldogs in the first inning that scored two and extended the Addison lead to 4-0.
The fourth inning the No. 9 team in 1A broke the contest open as two-run doubles by Zach Seymore and Stephen Bryson were huge while Forrest Jacques drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Zach Anders singled home a run.
Addison got the bases loaded in the fifth against St. Bernard reliever Moe Rosas but he was able to avoid trouble by getting Everett to ground out to end the inning.
Everett set down the Saints in order in the fifth to end the game by the 10-run rule. He had retired the last five batters he faced with no Saint getting any further than second base throughout the game.
The Bulldogs welcome the Saints to Addison Tuesday and hope they get some help from Decatur Heritage against Falkville. The Bulldogs will need the No. 6 Eagles to sweep the No. 3 Blue Devils and force a tie between Addison and Falkville.
It would be settled with a playoff game between the Blue Devils and Bulldogs to determine who would be going to the 1A playoffs in finishing as the runner-up in Area 11.
